Vasui S.A.L.T. II
We conducted the Vasui S.A.L.T. II course with Roman and Carolyn Hostetler over the last three weeks. 39 pastors and leaders graduated from the course. Graduation went from 10:30am until 4pm on Friday! LOTS of speeches... the Chief, the local Government Member, Father George, the President of the Women's Union, the President of the BKK (Bikpela Kristen Komunity), a representative of the class, Pastor Fred as representative of the S.A.L.T. team, then a few others. Then, we presented graduation certificates and after, Mick presented the Headmaster of the school with 32 Vasui Bibles to give to 32 kids who were to be confirmed on Sunday. All the community leaders said they really support S.A.L.T. It was very encouraging. Father George said he saw S.A.L.T. as "Re-evangelization" because many people may have heard the Word of God, but it had become stale and they did not apply it to their lives. He said The S.A.L.T. Project was an important program because it made people excited about the gospel in their own language, and it encouraged them to incorporate the Word of God into, and make it relevant to, their lives. There was also talk about how the Spirit of God had sent the S.A.L.T. team to bring reconciliation to the island of Bougainville. The Vasui leaders have asked us to return next year to conduct a S.A.L.T. Instructors' Training course in Buka for 3 or 4 different language groups. To God goes the glory!
